The Alarm Egg (アラームエッグ Arāmueggu) is a Night Dimension resident, neutral character and enemy in both NiGHTS into Dreams and Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams.

Character Information[]

Appearance[]

The Alarm Egg is a red, hexagonal floating clock inside a cyan eggshell with blue spots. The clock's hands spin wildly, and a blue light shines from the bottom eggshell which can wake up visitors that get caught in it.

History[]

NiGHTS into Dreams[]

The Alarm Egg will spawn after several seconds of playing as Claris or Elliot, or immediately if either one unfuses with NiGHTS. The Alarm Egg waits in place for a few seconds while a blue beam of light appears from its bottom, and then chases Claris or Elliot along the ground to attempt to catch them in its light. If it succeeds, the visitor will wake up, resulting in a Night Over. The Alarm Egg can appear in every level but Twin Seeds.

Dualizing with NiGHTS will make the Alarm Egg despawn; otherwise, it is impossible to defeat the Alarm Egg once it appears. However, both Elliot and Claris can knock it away and stun it for a few seconds by jumping on the clock inside the eggshell.

The Alarm Egg also appears in the game's loading screen.

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams[]

The Alarm Egg returns in Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams, appearing in the game's single level, Christmas Spring Valley. It functions identically to the one found in NiGHTS into Dreams, but additionally appears in the game's date adjustment screen.

Other Media Appearances[]

NiGHTS Archie Comics[]

The Alarm Egg makes a small appearance in the first issue, where it wakes Elliot up, allowing him to escape from Gillwing. Also, while not the same as the Alarm Egg, a similar alarm clock-like creature appears in the fifth issue, trying to escape from Reala's attack.

Spin-Off Appearances[]

NiGHTS into Dreams (LCD)[]

The Alarm appears in the LCD adaptation of NiGHTS into Dreams. When time runs out while the player is controlling NiGHTS, the visitor will unfuse with NiGHTS and the Alarm Egg will be activated. The visitor has a limited time to go back to NiGHTS and dualize with them again. If the time runs out, the Alarm Egg will force them to wake up, resulting in a game over.

Other Appearances[]

  • Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: The Alarm Egg makes a cameo in the NiGHTS thematic pinball from Casinopolis, floating over the NiGHTS table. It has no negative effect on the player, however.
  • Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed: A giant Alarm Egg makes a cameo floating around in the Dream Valley circuit.
  • Sonic The Hedgehog #30 Anniversary - Seasons of Chaos: A badnik version of the Alarm Egg makes a small appearance in the comic.[1] The badnik is partially inspired by the Alarm Egg and partially inspired by the Ticktock badnik from Knuckles' Chaotix.

Trivia[]

  • The Alarm Egg was replaced by the Awakers in Journey of Dreams.
  • Despite not being a Nightmaren, the Alarm Egg's concept art is listed along with the third level Nightmarens' concept arts in the games. This is likely because both are enemies found in the Nightopia portion of a dream.
  • The game was originally going to have a mini Alarm Egg, which would appear as a collectable and would give the player more time playing with NiGHTS.[2]
